Jump Into Track & Field
Young athletes begin their track and field journey through fun, age‑appropriate events delivered by clubs, leagues, schools, and local organisers. These early competitions are designed to be friendly, supportive, and full of encouragement — helping children discover new skills, build confidence, and enjoy taking part. It’s all about giving them positive first experiences that spark excitement for the sport and set the foundations for future development.

Indoor fun that builds skills, confidence and teamwork.
Sportshall provides a fun, energetic indoor athletics experience that supports the early development of young athletes across our region. As a fully‑inclusive programme, it helps children build confidence, coordination and core skills through team‑based activities that mirror the values we promote within EAA — enjoyment, participation and long‑term athlete development.
With over a million young people taking part nationally, Sportshall offers an excellent introduction to athletics and a natural stepping stone into club training and outdoor competition. It also brings families together, creating a positive, supportive environment for children beginning their athletics journey.

Where young athletes discover their competitive spark
Funetics Multi Challenge is England Athletics’ new, age‑appropriate competition format designed to give primary‑aged children regular, enjoyable opportunities to take part in athletics. Building on the success of the indoor Sportshall model, the format focuses on fun, teamwork and individual improvement, offering a welcoming first step into competitive athletics for young athletes.
The programme expands the national funetics framework, helping 4–11‑year‑olds develop their fundamental running, jumping and throwing skills in a safe, supportive environment. With upcoming age‑group changes, funetics multi challenge provides a timely pathway for U10s and U12s to begin competing and building confidence.
Pilots are currently being delivered across England — including by Hampshire AA, Athletics Norfolk, Gateshead Harriers/North East and Aspire to Greatness — with national coordination and endorsement from England Athletics. All challenges are scored through Roster, ensuring a simple and consistent experience for clubs and families.
